I do get a lot of DM’s on my Instagram page about Montessori Parenting and the Experiential Learning that I follow with Shrav. In fact in the pandemic stricken world, where the children are completing most of their school through online mode, it’s all the more important for parents to adopt the Montessori Parenting principles. The Montessori Parenting approach helps the children to grow into balanced individuals acknowledging both their strengths and weaknesses.

Last time, during the #MyFriendAlexa campaign, I spoke at length about the Montessori methodology and Parenting techniques. This time, I am sharing with you another list of Montessori Parenting books split across the child’s age. Some of these books, I also use them in my Parent coaching calls.

Montessori Parenting Books:

I am listing my top favorite Montessori parenting books as per the different age brackets as categorized by Dr. Maria Montessori. There are a lot more books available in the market, but these are the books that I have read multiple times and would recommend to anyone interested in the Montessori philosophy.

Zero to toddler years

Montessori From the Start: The Child at Home from Birth to Age Three

The Montessori from the start talks about raising the child in the most natural and comfortable way for both parents and child. They don’t recommend the expensive nursery set up or provide too much emphasis on early weaning or potty training. They recommend taking to the cues from the child and start introducing the solids or start potty training when the child’s body and mind are ready. One of the excellent books about the Montessori way of Parenting, I would say.

The Montessori Toddler

The Montessori toddler book is another amazing book that recommends raising the child in the most natural way possible. The child doesn’t need expensive plastic toys and a lot of junk. Their exploration starts when they are along with the mother or other supervising adult in the house. They can play anywhere with any material that’s available to them.

Toddler till 6 years

Teach Me To Do It Myself

This book lists down all the simple activities that you can set up at home with minimal preparation. All these activities would make your toddler move from dependence to independence. A real gem for the parents who want to engage their kids in a constructive activity at home.

How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen

How to talk so little kids will listen gives you real-life examples of the gentle parenting process. Instead of shouting or yelling at them, or giving in to all their demands, there is always another fun way to deal with their demands. The authors show these different ways to deal with all kinds of demands and tantrums from children of all ages. In fact, this book could be used with kids of all ages.

Elementary Years:

Children Who Are Not Yet Peaceful

This is another great book to deal with the children who are in their elementary years (6–12 years). It book lists down a lot of strategies to deal with the sensitive periods in the child and their emotional disturbances as well as intellectual hunger. I would recommend this book to all the parents whose child is in the elementary years.

Montessori Madness: A Parent-to-Parent Argument for Montessori Education

This book, talks about the practical aspects of Montessori parenting by a Montessori Parent himself. In fact, the author has used the Montessori principles to teach the pilots how to navigate through the skies. The reason why I like this book a lot is mainly due to the engaging writing style of the author and the good discussions/arguments he used in the book.

Teenage years:

The reason why I like and recommend this book, “ The Self-Driven Child “ as a parenting coach to everyone is that this book shows the importance of being just a guide to the child instead of a coach. As a parent, we have to only show different paths to the child and how he travels in that path is the child’s decision. This book explains it really beautifully and with the help of the tips and strategies given in this book, you can show that path to your child.

How to Raise an Adult, is one of the books that’s suited for kids of all ages. It shows how the trap of overparenting is killing the confidence in the child, especially in their early teenage years. There is a lot of valuable advice about recognizing the child’s cues and wants even when he is not talking or sharing with the parents.

Maria Montessori Books

Out of all the books written by Dr. Maria Montessori, most of the Montessorians treat the Secret of Childhood and The Absorbent Mind as bibles. I would have read both of them multiple times. These books talk about the child being a wonderful human being full of possibilities and how much the child would learn just by observing the parents and other adults around him.

Final Thoughts:

I hope you find this list of Montessori Parenting books is useful to you and help you in understanding the Montessori philosophy in a better way. These books are the additional ones to the list I had previously mentioned on my blog under Montessori Parenting. If you have any questions or doubts, please feel free to drop in your comments or book a free consultation call with me from my contact page. I would provide as much help and guidance as I can.
